The old ways of earning money on the Web are long gone. Although there are excellent blogs which describe how to earn money on the Web, most of the methods offered just don’t work any more. One of the things that went out of the window is the AdSense quick buck. When Google changed their AdSense policies and decided that only links in their ads will be clickable, revenue went down abruptly for millions of small publishers.
I have launched a number of websites just to test out this theory and to see if advice that appears on these blogs is still valid, although I am alread pretty sure that it isn’t. At least it isn’t for us whitehat SEO folks. I have always strived to make quality, remarkable and original content. This is how I managed to break out into the online money-making business.
Earning easy money on the Web is a myth
Maybe some of the ways to earn money that these authors describe work, if you manage to pull in a lot of traffic by using blackhat methods. These methods are perfectly valid, only you’ll rarely hear how to pull them off. No wonder: A good way of earning money has to be kept secret if you don’t want the same method to be exploited by hundreds or thousand of others.
Blogs like doshdosh, bluehatseo and the like have lots of readers because their authors describe interesting methods of earning money on the Web in a very compelling way that makes you want to try it out. Although there are rarely any real examples given, they sound like they know what they are writing about, and I’m sure that they are experts at what they claim to be.
I definitely think that today, and for the forseeable future, the only fail-safe system and certain way to make it on the Web is to create websites with content that is original, of high quality, honest, and passionate (being biased works too). You must be patient and go for the long run. Unless you are a master of blackhat SEO methods, that is. And they are a rare species.
Experiments are underway
Anyway, I have decided to test out a few things. I have launched a video website to see if earning money by using some tricks is still possible.
Also, I have started to implement some link-getting techniques that I used on my educational website on this blog you’re reading now, so that you can see what actually works. I am looking forward to sharing more of my knowledge and my experiments’ results with you. Subscribe to my blog to stay tuned for news regarding these developements.

Good post. I just discovered your blog and I look forward to reading about your experiments. I am an Adsense publisher and I haven’t seen any dramatic drop in revenue. (Maybe because it’s so low in the first place) I have never tried any of the black hat tactics. I like to think that my sites add value by helping people find what they’re looking for. And if they can’t find it on my site, at least the ads are relevant so that gives them more options. Good content will always win out over click-trickery.

I agree with you: Great content will bring traffic and revenue. Low-quality and spammy websites are designed for blackhat methods, because whitehat doesn’t work for them - visitors will never return to a crap, spammy website.
And yes, good content coupled with relevant ads works. Finding great affiliate ads that are relevant to your niche is good, because AdSense doesn’t always match the content.
