…but at a different speed. I just read a nice post about overnight success and it was really soothing. In today’s world, where information travels at the speed of light, we hear about someone’s overnight success story way too often. There is a catch, however:
- Either the success wasn’t an overnight one, but was built over a long period of time. The media just blows it up and people fall into that trap all too often. Or…
- The person that actually scored an overnight success was extremely talented at doing a certain thing or posesses an iinate skill.
And guess what?
- That extremely talented person had to learn to walk first.
- Then she or he had to learn to wipe its own ass in order to be able to take a walk in the park without having to run back home if the urge to shit came by.
- At a certain point in time, that extreme bunch of walking talent had to learn to read and do some elementary math to be able to read “High voltage” (and avoid getting roasted) and to buy stuff without being fucked over.
- …and a myriad of other things we all had to walk through at some point in our lives.
- And then, one day, the talent exploded. More learning followed. Maybe at a faster pace. But still, learning and trial & error was there.
And there were millions of others who could have pulled off the overnight success that that particular, extremely talented person did. Why didn’t they or why didn’t you? Because your life was different and because you weren’t were at the right places at the right times. Would you be the same person you are now if you did things differently? You wouldn’t.
You may either be: Dissatisfied and rant and whine about “Why oh why am I not that person?” Well, because you were not born to be that person (surprise, surprise). You were born to be yourself. And being yourself is a wonderful thing, because you can learn anything you set your mind to. And you can achieve anything you set your mind to. So, if you happen to dislike your own personality, ask yourself why is that so and begin to change. Work on yourself!
Or: If you’re satisified with being yourself, but just want a little bit of success you have been hearing about, get down to work. And enjoy the learning process. When you succeed at something, you
will realize how exciting the learning, the trial & error way of doing things were. You will be discovering a new world and that is really wonderful.
Conclusion: overnight success does not exist. If you think it does, go play the retarded lottery, wait an eternity while wasting your money and prepare yourself for a healthy dose of self-destructive skullfucking in the case you win (the odds of winning the grand prize at the lottery are 1 in several million, much like they are that you are going to be born as a certain Einstein, Bill Gates or Yourself).
And now, get back to building your next website or blog!
